Like a fine Wine or aged Cheese, surfaces over time develope exquisite character that can't be adequately or effectively replicated in reproductions. Paint that is chipped, peeling or crackled, wood that becomes knarled and weather worn or which developes a lustre and patina from years of use. China that developes crazing just under the surface. Vintage fabrics that become warmly faded and delicate fabrics like Silks and Brocades that show signs of wear in their unique way. The indentations of wear on those objects often used and worn by years of use by hands and feet or the elements.</em></div><div align="justify"><em></em></div><div align="justify"><em>I'm enamored by time worn surfaces, their beauty and character, the intricate details of the aging process. The ravages of time aren't always a negative thing to me. To possess or to taste those items that have been aged to perfection delights me. It's ALL in the details to me... time can be an Artist of sorts, chiseling, refining, reworking, creating a masterpiece over the years.</em></div><em></em><br /><div></div><div align="justify"><em>I have a penchant for old Doors and vintage Doorknobs, I repurpose many because I've long since used all of them possible to install in entryways as their original purpose! *smiles* I have furniture made of old Doors, screens made of old Doors, old Doors used just like Art and standing against things just to showcase their beauty or be a backdrop to a vignette I've created or to give privacy and a cozy feel to an area. I've got Doors stored for future projects and visions I have yet to manifest into their reality. Last year on my Birthday, my wish list was an antique carved Oak Door with an oval Beveled Glass window, intricate Brass doorplate and escuchon and Amethyst Crystal Doorknobs... yep, I got it... the dear Husband reluctantly caved and purchased said beloved Door... much to his chagrin since he's of the opinion of "How many Doors do you need?!" *LOL* Well... how many IS too many of something? Especially a passion or penchant? Remember... I'm an incurable collector and my passions and penchants are wide. As long as I continue to find a use for something, a project, an Art form created from it, why pass it up and have regrets? Especially those things that are free!?! Most of my Doors you see are Salvaged treasures, gleaned from years of finding those sites where remodeling, restoration or razing has gone on and those beautiful old architectural pieces were going to be hauled to a landfill and forever lost.</em></div><div align="justify"><em></em></div><div align="justify"><em>I have amassed Architectural Salvage pieces of a wide variety... Stained Glass Windows, Slag Glass Windows, Beveled Glass Windows, Corbels, Columns, Mantels, Spindles, Antique Hardware, Finials, intricately carved wood pieces of unknown purpose or origin, Victorian Ceiling Tin and Ceiling Trim, old Brick, Mexican Talavera Tiles and Talavera Sinks, Barnwood, you name it... I've probably found and rescued it and turned it into something... or it's waiting to be turned into something fabulous!</em></div><div align="justify"><em></em></div><div align="justify"><em>If you also have a love affair with those items that are aged to perfection, including your significant other *wink*, then you understand what I'm trying to convey here. Old things, old Friends, old people and old Souls are precious and should be properly cherished and appreciated. Age is a privilege not afforded to many... as I age I'm embracing what time is perfecting in me too. Things and people that last and survive have a story to tell you see. It can be told in words or it can be told in unspoken ways... that story... My story and the stories of all those time worn pieces I've surrounded myself with are a wealth of History and life experiences gathered together in one place. When the young come to visit our Home they are always fascinated by the stuff and even moreso by the stories attached to each piece. The Art of storytelling has never lost its appeal, its just become more difficult to tell a rich story when there is little History attached to something or someone. I could tell an almost endless multitude of stories associated with what I've collected over time, about the objects, about the quest for the objects and about the History surrounding it all. I Hope that you are as apt to convey and share those special stories associated with your rich heritage and beloved items?</em></div><div align="justify"><em></em></div><div align="justify"><em></em></div><div align="justify"><em></em></div><div align="justify"></div><div align="justify"><br /><em>May the appreciation and collecting of those items aged to perfection continue, may those "keepers of the past" retain and pass along those precious stories to future generations so that the cycle continues for others to enjoy far into other eras and not be forgotten and lost forever.</em></div><div align="justify"></div><div align="justify"><em>Share with me your story... there's nothing better to enjoy good fellowship over... Dawn... The Bohemian </em></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div>

I certainly have the acreage and out-buildings to host such an event. We also have such an abundance of found treasure overflow that we realize we're all at about saturation point and need to edit and pass along some of the bounty. *wink* Sure, I've donated benevolently every year to my favorite charities and Thrifts, knowing the proceeds support good causes, and I still will, it's so much easier to let go of my lovelies when I know they will do the most good and be bought by those whose love for them parallels my own.</em></div><em></em></div><div></div><div align="justify"><em>But, there is just something about the alure of having a sideline business doing what you absolutely love and are passionate about, that you'd do for nothing, but if it profits you, well that is icing upon the cake! Utilizing those scavenging skills to be a blessing to your Family, who have long endured your pack rat habits and obsession with the Junquing instinct. *LOL* So, it is drawing us... we were MEANT to do this, why else would it be such a strong urge and desire to comb every crevice and corner for those found treasures and never tire of it?</em></div><div align="justify"><em></em></div><div align="justify"><em>We get excited when we know we're about to embark on one of these grand adventures, even if we come up empty handed, the thrill of the hunt gets the adrenalin flowing. Its not just retail therapy, we find as much for free as we would buy and haggle for. "Big Trash Day" can often find us driving around the neighborhoods scouring the curbside discards for those items we can restore, re-purpose, or simply can't believe someone thought was trash and rescue from the fate of being lost forever to a landfill! *gasp* </em></div><div align="justify"></div><div align="justify"><em>Architectural Salvage is my kryptonite, I can almost never pass by those pieces that are pre-1950's era without a longing to rescue them and salvage them! Every old remodeled or condemned and soon-to-be-torn-down house has a wealth of beautiful architectural elements that often aren't even given the chance to be discovered, recovered and rescued by those of us that realize their inherent value. Even if not valuable in an economic sense, their aesthetic and historic value can't be denied... they just don't, or can't, make 'em like that anymore. Craftsmanship of that quality is a rarity and when found today can cost a fortune to attempt to replicate. Perhaps their value is imagined, at least by me, and they truly are worthless to anyone but those of us who have vision or see beauty where others see only... well, I won't even speculate or presume to know what others see or fail to see. After all, beauty is subjective and different things excite different people, it doesn't make it right or wrong, its just a small part of what makes us who we distinctly are.</em></div><div align="justify"></div><div align="justify"><em>Our Homes and how we feather our nests is a reflection into our Hearts, minds, and Souls... our tastes and personalities are glimpsed by what we surround ourselves with and are drawn to. That is why I encourage the space you reside in to be decorated and filled with what YOU love, regardless of the opinions of others and what may be deemed "in" or "out". If you absolutely love it, you'll find a place for it, a use for it, and a Joy of owning and possessing it for your distinct reasons that maybe not everyone "gets" and thats okay... they can feather their own nests to suit themselves.</em> </div><div align="justify"></div><div align="justify"><em>Something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it or take the time and effort it requires to rescue and reclaim it. You wouldn't believe the measures I've taken to drag something home to my lair when I've stumbled upon it, fallen in love, have to have it, and had to figure out a way to transport it! *LOL* MacGyver has nothing on me in resourcefulness and ingenuity when it comes to finding a way to get a found treasure from it's present location to my location!!! *smiles* I often look like I could be a Circus performer as I'm balancing and transporting a "find"... it's entertaining to watch me I'm sure! I'm surprised that spectators haven't broken out in fits of laughter or spontaneous applause at times as they marvel at my antics or wonder what on earth they're witnessing?! It's a sight to behold!!! My dear Husband only sighs, he's long since given up the fight to discourage me or ask what I intend to do with or where I intend to PUT this newest acquisition. After over twenty years there doesn't seem to be much point in trying to change me. To be sure he has often been my accomplice and enabler *smiles*... because there are those particular acquisitions we both delight in and he's a Treasure Hunter in his own fashion and way too, so we're a good fit. Some of the best little surprises are those he's found "for" me and dragged home to take my breath away! My clawfoot slipper tub is a prime example... found while he was Scouting the back roads of the desert prior to a hunt... there it lay right in the middle of the road... and JUST what I had been LONGING for, praying for, lusting after, unable to attain at any price... surely a gift from Heaven laid at our feet gratis, serendipity at it's finest! The lengths he went to maneuver that bohemeth of cast iron all by his lonesome during an Arizona Summer heat wave and load it up to cart home to me only confirmed and proved his Love for me!</em></div><div align="justify"><em></em></div><div align="justify"><em>Some of our fondest memories are the excursions we've done as a Family or Couple, combing the back roads like a band of merry "Pickers" and in the most unlikely of places to find a group having as much fun as we've had. There are those almost Sacred places where you should take only photos and leave only footprints and we're respectful of that and abhor where others have violated that code of conduct in areas that should not be disturbed and plundered, however tempting it might be. Good Karma is as important as good pickings to us, so some things we leave be and pray others will also. </em></div><div align="justify"><em></em></div><div align="justify"><em>All of us who share in these passions are preserving pieces of History one bit at a time... and the stories and snippets of culture, eras and life we hold dear and hope to have enough of for future generations to enjoy and hopefully experience are definitely worth our time and efforts I believe. Being a "keeper of the past" is a responsibility I have felt Called to, how about you? Guard the treasures of the past as earnestly as you look forward to a rich future... and happy hunting... Dawn... The Bohemian</em></div><div align="justify"></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div>

text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div align="justify"><em>Our homes should be refuge and shelter from the storms of life, a place where one can retreat and restore the Soul. We should surround ourselves with those things that bring comfort, Peace, contentment and Joy... a safe harbor for ourselves and our Families to anchor to. Where else but Home can we go to and have those feelings of truly belonging and uniquely expressing ourselves, our true selves, no facades or pretenses required? At Home we can heal from whatever comes against us in life and feel sheltered and protected. I want our Home to be the place we all feel most at east, most able to feel unconditional Love, the place you want to come "Home" to. It can be difficult in this fast-paced and often stressful and demanding world to stay centered and not allow it to impact you, to contaminate you, so the Home should be a restorative place to retreat to, to live in Peacefully, to extend hospitality from to others. Keeping negative outside influences out of our Homes can be challenging at times, but it is necessary to check it at the door and make every attempt that once inside the threshhold everyone feels nurtured, safe, and able to lay their heads and be themselves with a Peace that isn't often possible outside the fortress of Home.</em></div><div align="justify"><em></em></div><div align="justify"><em>I have insulated and surrounded myself with those things loved or of sentimental or heirloom value for a reason, most things tell a story and the one these cherished items impart about our story is a deeply personal one and that brings comfort, happy memories, a beautiful vibe that I enjoy being around daily. Something can be beautiful and yet not at all personal, other things can be beautiful in the eye of the beholder simply because of the story, the memories, the sentiments and history attached to it. Those tend to be the things that abide, that we hang onto, pass along to future generations as a legacy to our past, ancestry, special times spent together. </em></div><div align="justify"></div><div align="justify"><em>Think upon those particular things that you hold in high regard, that have rare value to you even if they aren't particularly valuable in the monetary sense. Or of those things that you wouldn't part with at any price, or would be reluctant to. Those things that if lost, stolen or destroyed would bring grief and would be irreplaceable. It is telling about us what we truly value in our lives. It is sometimes easier to understand why and how we value relationships with people than it is to understand why and how we value certain things? The love for a person is usually quite obvious, the love for a thing, however, can be somewhat of a mystery. Why exactly are we drawn to certain things? How or why do we get attached to inanimate objects? People naturally come first, or at least they should, but its quite obvious that most people also do get attached to certain things in their lives also and develop a relationship of sorts with their stuff. *Smiles* Not much can beat a good hug from a loved one, however, being around the things we love can also bring a fuzzy warm feeling that isn't as easy to fathom. I can look at a piece of beautiful Art and feel emotion. I can get a thrill from finding that special found object and knowing it could be mine. I can sit in a room with a particular ambiance, a certain atmosphere and feel a range of emotions just as pleasing as when I'm with someone special. Certain colors, sounds and scents can lift my mood just as easily as being in the presence of a good Friend who goes out of their way to uplift me.</em></div><div align="justify"></div><div align="justify"><em>There is an energy even in the things that are not alive, that we can connect to.
