Can you have too many Chandeliers or other spectacular light fixtures in a room? I'm of the opinion that you can't. Great lighting gives ambiance to a room quite like nothing else and spectacular light fixtures can be focal points that literally 'make' a room. Having one great piece in a room is better than having several mediocre ones so I'll often save towards acquiring those 'great' pieces and be most selective when choosing those anchor pieces. I'll invest in the best Chandeliers, light fixtures and lighting that I can afford and good pieces give an opulence to even the most modest and humble Home. I've found that no matter how many other lovely pieces you have in a room, the predominant light fixture is usually what people notice first. Couple a fabulous Chandelier with an ornate ceiling medallion, either the real deal or a reproduction medallion, and you've got people looking up and quite often catching their breath. Fabulous Sconces, Table Chandeliers, Candelabras and Lamps can also make rooms feel luxurious and whether electrical or lit with candles they make a powerful statement. A new passion of mine is leaving some of my ceiling mounted pieces left unhung and used in more creative ways... or even used outdoors in areas protected from the weather and elements. An outdoor room with luxurious lighting... does it really get any better than that?!
I'm always on the lookout for great lighting and have often traded up... as I acquire better and better pieces over time. I gravitate towards the ornate, but even simple pieces can be great and I've seen some truly masterful repurposing of common or interesting objects into great lighting and creative decorating styles. From the Industrial Look to a Southern Plantation Mansion Look I've seen great lighting styles that catch my eye and would make a profound impact in any room they grace. There's just something about Light and the importance of luminance in our lives... in all it's various shades and intensities, that is welcoming and brings warmth and Spirit to whatever it illuminates and reveals... may your Light always shine brightly and beckon a warm welcome to all who enter... There is not enough darkness in all the world to put out the light of even one small candle. - Robert Alden
May flowers always line your path and sunshine light your day. May songbirds serenade you every step along the way. May a rainbow run beside you in a sky that’s always blue. And may happiness fill your heart each day your whole life through. - Irish Blessing
