Perhaps one of my favorite decorating styles incorporates time worn elements... sepia tones... perfectly adored imperfections... aged fabrics with muted tones, frayed edges and the sumptuous feel of the quality of things that last and are truly timeless. Tarnished Silver... old Feed or Grain Sack materials, French linens and heavy old Velvets... ornate etched old Mirrors that now have interesting patterns and wear in the looking glass... opulent Gesso frames that still retain their elegance in spite of the mishaps of time that cause pieces to chip or be missing... Bohemian Chandeliers with Crystal and Glass Beaded excess or Vintage Italian Tole... old Clock Faces... old Down/Feather Pillows with Ticking Fabric covers... damaged pieces that were so beloved there was an attempt at repair, however feeble...Vintage Suitcases... heavy old Cast Iron Garden Art and Urns... bawdy Victorian fringed Lampshades, even if they're in tatters... old Dress Forms... Antique furniture made of exotic Woods and patinas that only Father Time can create... old Piano Shawls... rusty Metal accents... Vintage Baskets of Wicker and Wire... Antique Persian Rugs... funky old Hats... old Books with the signs of wear that shows they've been well read and loved... and old Sepia tinted photos. Yes, these types of time worn elements are among some of my very favorite things and the ambiance they create makes me feel comfortable, comforted and make a room look as if it evolved over time and tells a story... of all the lives the pieces have touched over the years... and of a History and perhaps even a legacy...
