One of the most enjoyable aspects of this Holiday Season is by far dressing up in Costume. When else can you dress up with total abandon and have it be totally acceptable? So each year about a month before Halloween the Grandkids and I scour the Flea Markets, Tag Sales and Thrift Stores for what will be our next set of Costumes that will captivate our imaginations, express our style, fulfill inner fantasies to become something or someone else, yet do it all on a modest budget. Part of the thrill after all is in The Hunt for such Treasures, is it not? We all adored the "Pirates Of The Caribbean" movies with Johnny Depp... a couple of years ago my Grandson went as Capt. Jack Sparrow. This year we were thrilled to find, at various Thrift Stores, other pieces of Pirate ensembles, including that cool Octopus Pirate Mask... we've decided for the sake of breathing that for Trick-Or-Treating we'll just go with the eye patch look though. *LOL* And my Grand-Daughter, with her love of Dance and always being "The Princess" in one form or another, snagged an adorable authentic East Indian child's dress outfit at another Thrift Store that was pure Princess Jasmine in appearance and the colors and craftsmanship are divine.
And what I love most about certain well chosen and loved Costumes is that they serve dual purposes... quite often I'll keep authentic ethnic ensembles for lounging around the house, which can transport you into an exotic mood any time... or they make for imaginative play for the Children long past Trick-Or-Treating in them or going to Costume Parties... and that my Friends makes them worth their weight in Gold...
