I have always been a very nostalgic person by nature, but this year in particular I've been in a Vintage Christmas type of groove. Those things that evoke a feeling of Christmases of yesterday have appealed to me moreso than ever before. As well as decorating our Home with Vintage Christmas items I've been on the lookout for those items that speak of Christmas Past to me, it has delighted me to seek them out and just enjoy looking at them and having it bring back fond memories of previous Christmases, especially those of my childhood... when many of these items weren't 'Vintage' then. *wink* It makes me wonder what items of today's Christmases will be looked back on fondly, kept by keepers of the past, sought after by the younger generations when they reach our Seasons of life and will become tomorrow's Vintage items in the future? I did come Home with one Treasure that I couldn't JUST behold, because it was so fabulous and such a good deal *under $10*... the lovely aged 1800's illustrated Book of Christ In Art... where the tooled leather binding and covers have graphics and Gold Leaf that are as lovely as those in the interior... it was quite a special find and perfect for our Religious Vintage themed Mantel decor.
What speaks fondly of a Vintage Christmas to you my Friends? And why do you suppose those are the items that bring a special rush of memories and nostalgia in particular? For each of us it could be something quite different... or exactly the same... things that help us to recall and appreciate our past, while living in the moment of our present, and looking forward with Hope and anticipation for our future... Merry Christmas... Dawn... The Bohemian
Christmas--that magic blanket that wraps itself about us, that something so intangible that it is like a fragrance. It may weave a spell of nostalgia. Christmas may be a day of feasting, or of prayer, but always it will be a day of remembrance--a day in which we think of everything we have ever loved.
