Gallery U is a totally unique gallery space. Large and spacious, it is full of contemporary artwork from east coast artists, local Michigan artists, and the clients of UI Collective. It is located in downtown Royal Oak at 310 West 4th Street, a few doors down from the Royal Oak Music Theater.

The plaque at the front desk of Gallery U Contemporary Art Space in Royal Oak, MI reads:
"Gallery U is operated by clients of Universal Institute and Therapeutic Rehabilitation Center. This artistic and work program is part of their injury rehabilitation and recovery and serves as a transition back into community settings. The primary goal of the gallery is to provide workplace training for people with traumatic brain injuries to work on a daily basis, in order to build self esteem, improved practical skills and generate income through active participation in vocational training opportunities." Not only can you buy unique art here but you can feel good doing it too (as if buying art doesn't already make you feel good--this is even better)!

Ashley Cook runs the gallery.

Currently you can find the photography exhibit "Snap Judgement" running until Thursday, March 17th. I have 14 pieces in the show so stop by and see it while you can! Their next exhibit starts March 24th.

Towards the back of the gallery you can find affordable handmade gifts, jewelry, soaps, and original artwork by the clients. Now the gallery has an etsy shop you can visit as well with new items added daily.
